PageToVid vs Pictory
Pictory and PageToVid both accept a URL and give you back a narrated video, but they make very different films. Pictory reads the article, summarizes it into a script and illustrates each scene with stock footage, your uploads or AI visuals. PageToVid opens the page in a real browser and films the site itself, then writes, voices and captions the script over that recording.
Who Pictory is for
Content and marketing teams who want to repurpose long text (blog posts, articles, scripts, slides) into social videos illustrated with licensed stock footage, and who like a script-first editor where they can rephrase, shorten and swap every scene's visuals.
Who PageToVid is for
Teams whose video should show their actual product or website: SaaS landing pages, pricing pages, sign-up flows, listings. PageToVid films the live page in a browser, so the viewer sees the real interface rather than footage chosen to match the words.
Feature by feature
| Feature | PageToVid | Pictory |
|---|---|---|
| Video from a URL | Yes: paste any public URL. It reads the page and writes the script from what the page actually says. | Yes, “URL to Video”: it summarizes the page's text into a script you can refine, then builds a storyboard from it.[3] |
| What the video shows | Films your real website in a browser (a screencast of the live page), plus motion-graphic scenes. No stock-footage library. AI-generated clips are optional, on paid plans or with a film pass. | Stock footage (Getty Images and Storyblocks libraries on paid plans), your own uploads or AI-generated visuals, matched to each scene. Automatic recording of the live page is not described on their site; a separate screen recorder is operated by you.[1] |
| AI avatars | No stock avatars. An optional AI presenter can sit in a corner of the screencast (paid plans). | Yes, AI avatars, with custom avatars on the Professional plan.[1] |
| Voice languages | AI voice-over and captions in 13 languages. | ElevenLabs voices in 29 languages (premium, billed by the minute) and standard voices in 7 languages.[1] |
| AI assistant (MCP) integration | Built-in MCP connector (https://pagetovid.com/mcp) for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients, on every plan including Free. | Pictory MCP Server for Claude Desktop, Cursor and Claude Code, which requires a Pictory API subscription; a Pictory GPT in the ChatGPT store.[5] |
| Free tier | 120 credits to start (3 films), 3 free films per website, 1080p. Free films, the first included, carry a small badge and a 2.5-second end card. | No free plan. A 14-day free trial with premium features; trial downloads carry the Pictory watermark.[6] |
| Starting price | $19/month (Creator, billed monthly, 25 films). | Starter at $25/month billed annually, or $29 billed monthly.[1] |

Two different films from the same URL
Give both tools the address of a product page and the difference is obvious within seconds of playback.
Pictory treats the URL as text to repurpose. Its help centre describes the flow: the page content is summarized, a script is generated, you refine it (rephrase, shorten, lengthen) and Pictory builds a storyboard, splitting the script into scenes and matching visuals to each one. Those visuals come from its stock libraries, your own uploads or AI-generated images. The result looks like a polished social video about your topic.
PageToVid treats the URL as a set to film. It loads the page in a real browser, finds the parts worth showing (a search box, a pricing grid, a product listing) and records the screen as the camera scrolls, points and clicks. The script is written from what the page says, then voiced and captioned over that footage. The result looks like a guided tour of your site.
Where Pictory is the stronger choice
Pictory has been built around text repurposing, and it shows in the details:
- Licensed stock at scale. Its pricing page lists millions of Getty Images and Storyblocks clips on paid plans. If your topic is abstract (a thought-leadership post, a news summary, a listicle), stock footage is often a better match than a screen recording.
- More inputs. Besides URLs, Pictory's home page lists text, blogs, scripts, ideas, slides, images, screen recordings and existing videos as starting points.
- Avatars and premium voices. It offers AI avatars and ElevenLabs voices in 29 languages.
- Agent access. It publishes an MCP server for Claude and Cursor, though its docs say a standard plan alone is refused and an API subscription is needed.
If you publish a lot of written content and want each article to become a stock-footage video with little effort, Pictory is a strong fit.
Where PageToVid is the stronger choice
PageToVid is built for the cases where stock footage is the wrong picture:
- The product is the subject. A viewer deciding whether to sign up wants to see the real interface. PageToVid's camera records your live page, so every frame is your actual site, with your brand, your copy and your numbers.
- No editing pass. You paste a URL (or ask your AI assistant) and get a finished film; there is no storyboard of stock clips to review scene by scene, though you can change the script and re-render.
- Your AI assistant can drive it on any plan. PageToVid's MCP connector works on every plan, Free included, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code can inspect a page, direct the storyboard and render without an extra API subscription.
- A real free plan. New accounts start with 120 credits (3 films) instead of a time-limited trial.
Price and free plans
Pictory has no free plan; it offers a 14-day trial with its premium features, and trial downloads carry its watermark. Its Starter plan is listed at $25 a month billed annually or $29 billed monthly, with a monthly allowance of video minutes.
PageToVid's free plan has no time limit: 120 credits to start, enough for 3 films, with 3 free films per website. Free films are 1080p with a small badge and a 2.5-second end card, the first included. The cheapest paid plan, Creator, is $19 a month billed monthly and pays for 25 films a month without the badge.
The two are priced on different units (Pictory in video minutes, PageToVid in films), so compare on the number of videos you actually expect to publish.
Using them together
The tools do not exclude each other. A common split is to keep a text-repurposing tool for blog and newsletter content, and use PageToVid for anything that should show the product itself: landing-page videos, feature announcements, onboarding walkthroughs and ads that point at a real page.

Pick PageToVid if…
- The video should show your real website or product, filmed live in a browser.

- You want to make videos from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code on any plan, Free included.
- You want to start free, with 3 films and no trial clock.

Frequently asked questions
Does Pictory record my website?
Pictory's URL to Video feature summarizes the page's text into a script and matches stock footage, uploads or AI visuals to it; automatic recording of the live page is not described on its site. It has a separate screen recorder that you operate yourself. PageToVid records the live page automatically in a browser.
Which is cheaper, Pictory or PageToVid?
Pictory's Starter plan is listed at $25/month billed annually ($29 monthly) and has no free plan, only a 14-day trial. PageToVid has a free plan (120 credits, 3 films) and its cheapest paid plan is $19/month billed monthly. They charge on different units, so compare on how many videos you publish.
Can I use Pictory or PageToVid from Claude?
Both publish an MCP server. Pictory's docs say its server needs a Pictory API subscription. PageToVid's connector (https://pagetovid.com/mcp) works on every PageToVid plan, including Free, in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code.
Which one has AI avatars?
Pictory offers AI avatars, with custom avatars on its Professional plan. PageToVid has no avatar library; on paid plans it can place a generated presenter in a corner of the screencast.
Is there a watermark on free videos?
Pictory's trial downloads carry its watermark. PageToVid's free films carry a small “Made with PageToVid” badge and a 2.5-second end card, the account's first film included; any paid plan or a film pass removes both.
